Ragnarok Online - A dream suddenly came true

Free Server Valkyrie!

Oooh… how long have I longed to play Ragnarok Online? A long time… the dream was forced to just be a dream. Money was the ultimate obstacle. But guess how overjoyed I was after checking the game’s site today? I smiled. Ragnarok Zeny has got a new server and it’s free to play. This is Valkyrie.

The world is becoming generous, isn’t it? Well, I’m currently downloading the game which is a whole bunch of 1.34 GBs. That’s a lot for the ordinary 50kb connections, but luckily we have broadband. With FDM* the download speed is up to 636kb/s!

Ah, it isn’t finished yet. A little under 20 minutes of waiting remain. Well, I might as well tell you about how and where to download Ragnarok Zeny, if you’re a little tired of searching for everything I write in Google.

*Free Download Manager, a very fast and compact download manager that is, to my joy, freeware. No ads or similar.

Downloading Ragnarok Zeny with the new Valkyrie server

The game download can be found on the game’s own site. It is quite big, so there’s an option to download a little bunch of files at a time instead of the whole installer. The download page can be found here. It doesn’t really matter which download button you choose but make sure it says “Ragnarok Zeny - DOWNLOAD”. If you’re more comfortable with downloading it with a torrent, there’s a bittorrent file available. It can be found in the same page, just a little lower.

After you’ve downloaded the installer, install it. It should be very simple, just pressing next, accept agreement, next, next…

When you’re done installing, download the Valkyrie server installation file on the same page. (It’s blue with the text Ragnarok Zeny - Valkyrie on it.) When downloaded (it isn’t that big), run the .exe and choose the path you installed Ragnarok Zeny in. Mine was installed by default in C:\Program Files\Gravity\Ragnarok Online, so choose to put the installation in there. Then press “install”.

Now, run Ragnarok Zeny, it’ll patch some things… just wait… (I’m doing this thing while I’m writing, so this is an entirely new experience for me.) It finished, now I’ll just press start and a setup screen pops up. I choose to accept the default settings by pressing ok. Whoa, I’m greeted with a laggy menu. Oh no, oh no… I accepted the agreement and closed down the game. I closed down some applications and tried again.

The lag was gone but when I tried to log in, it said I haven’t paid. I thought it was supposed to be free… well, I’ll try again.

Ahhah, got in!

Yay! It was free, I was just a little blind. To be able to really play on the Valkyrie server;

1. Go to the same place you have RO Zeny installed in. (Mine: C:\Program Files\Gravity\Ragnarok Online)

2. Search for a button called “Valkyrie” and press it. It’ll start patching.

OPTIONAL = 3. Make a shortcut on your desktop for the .exe with the “Valkyrie” name.

After it has patched, hooray, you can play! When choosing server it’ll only show the Valkyrie server to you, which is the wonderful free server. After logging in and choosing a server, you can create a character! (The gender is the same you chose when registering an account for RO Zeny.)

(I’m inexperienced, so that may be the worst build ever. But… I like being strong! Enemies die faster that way! ;___;)

First steps!

WOO! I started playing and I got to say I love the graphics! You can even scroll the view by 360 degrees!

My first steps were filled with joy and I started exploring, there wasn’t much but grass and trees… but I was amazed that some areas had some “3-D”. I went over the bridge as Shion in the beginning told me… (See picture, that’s her.)

And here I’ve crossed the bridge and arrived at the castle walls! You can walk in the game only with a mouse. You can also customize windows and there’s some styles to them too.I liked the default theme so I didn’t change.

Wonderful, wonderful… after entering the castle, I had to go through many guides whom were blabbering all kinds of stuff. About the first skill called “First Aid”, Kafra Storage etc.

First after that I got to experience some real battle!

Yup. That’s a Roda Frog attacking me. Woo! I got a little helmet from the instructors! Cute! The “mission” here was now to level up two times, which didn’t take too long. After that you had to visit a guy who would take you to the job instructor. He would then give a personality test to check which job would be the most suitable. He said that I’d be a good Mage, but I didn’t want to be one. I wanted to be a Swordsman! He sent me to the headquarters of the Swordsman and I encountered the person you’d have to talk to in order to get to the 1st class.

I tried to achieve the title of Swordsman, but I hadn’t fullfilled the requirements. I’ll work on that probably tomorrow. See ya!
